Welcome

St. Peter's promoting academic success

St. Peter's Sixth Form Centre is a high achieving community where students learn and develop in an atmosphere where excellence and the individual are celebrated. We have an established track record for achievment and success which has made our Centre a natural choice for talented young people.  Our staff are highly qualified experts who exclusively teach their specialisms in a modern learning environment which is equiped with up to date resources for teaching and learning. We are rightfully proud of our students and they are our best advert.  As well as our own Year 11 students, we also draw students from around the county and even have some international students with us.

A Welcoming Community

Whilst we are a Roman Catholic school and promote Christian values, we are a multicultural community with young people from different religious backgrounds and beliefs. Our aim is to promote in our students an understanding of society as being rich and diverse, and to encourage positive open minded attitudes.

Personal Growth

In the Sixth Form, attitude to work and relationships are rather different from those usually experienced pre-16. Lessons are often less formal and tend to follow the tutorial style found in many universities. Students must expect to develop a more independent style of learning. Three hours private study for six days a week is accepted as the norm, for students wishing to be successful at Advanced Level.

Parent Quote

"I have noticed how you and your staff have inspired the students and encouraged self-confidence.

The Sixth Form's strong sense of community is very evident; you deserve congratulations".

Student Quote

"St. Peter's Sixth Form has been a great two years for me. I have met some great people, not only pupils but staff as well, who treat you with great respect. Everyone at St. Peter's accepts you for who you are. The most important thing I will remember is that the staff are not only teachers, but they are our friends who help us with our best interests in mind".

Committed to realising potential

There is always someone to help and give advice. We have an extensive and caring support system, and our Sixth Form offers a secure, safe place to work in.
Our Director of 16-19 Education is supported by two Assistant Directors, two Heads of Year, over 20 personal tutors, a councillor and chaplain, a librarian, and of course our Sixth Form Administrator.
Post 16 students benefit enormously from our purpose-built Sixth Form Centre. The Common Room is the heart of our Sixth Form, where students can mix and socialise. Our young people come from a range of backgrounds and so there will always be people who share similar interests.

The Centre also has a library and research facilities as well as a computer suite that allows students to extend their learning beyond the classroom.

Developing expertise and sporting prowess

Young people today require more than a purely academic education if they are to be equipped with the skills and self confidence needed for life in the 21st century . We offer many opportunities for the individual to express themselves and  develop their abilities.
Our sporting facilities include a purpose built sports hall complete with multi-gym, an astroturf, tennis courts, gymnasium and extensive playing fields.
Teams represent the school locally and nationally, and individual students have won national and regional honours.
In addition, there is an extensive enrichment programme providing a variety of experiences including engineering, teacher training, music performance and Mandarin.
